TVGuider - The TV Episode Manager

TVGuider is a tool that helps you rename downloaded TV Show episodes as well as figure out which episodes you are missing. It reads the current file name and attempts to extract out the season and episode information (and let's you edit it as well) and allows you to query TheTVDB.com's television database in order to rename your files properly.

Tutorial / Help

You can view the online help file which includes a tutorial for using TVGuider here.

As of 06.26.09 20.50 EST, the following errors exist in the tutorial:

  • The images need to be changed to reflect GUI changes.
  • Information for using the "Series Episode List" and "Missing Episode List" needs to be added.
  • One major note is that the "options" were moved to the File->Options menu.

I will do my best to update the tutorial within the next few days.

Changelog

  • 1.9.6 (Current 10.22.09)
  • 1.9.0
  • 1.8.4
  • 1.5.7
  • 1.5.5
  • 1.5.0
  • 1.4.3
  • 1.4.0
  • 1.3.8
  • 1.3.3

Download the current version.

  • Cleaned up some code. Removed a couple deprecated things and cleaned up a few variables. Hopefully cleared up a little memory in the process.
  • Fixed a bug during loading; load time should be a bit faster.
  • You should no longer lose your cache when installing a newer version of TVGuider.
  • If you changed your preference for the type of format that your images should save as and then you loaded a series that you had already picked a Series Image for, the file would not be recognized because the types were different. If the program cannot find any cached series images in the default format that you specify, it will now attempt to find them in any of the other formats and then convert and delete them if found.
  • Window size, position, state (maximized, minimized, normal), the position of the seperators between the episode list and directory list, and the widths and visibilty of columns in the episode list will now persit between sessions.
  • When you resize the window, if there is empty horizontal space in the episode list, the last column will automatically resize to fill it (purely cosmetic change).
  • Cleaned up some minor issues with the Installer (you should see no change).
  • Fixed the location of some of the windows in the program--rather than opening in the center of the main form, they would open in the center of the screen. If you had the main program anywhere but at the center you could potentially lose the windows (particurlarly with the series search window).
  • Fixed some tab-ordering issues
  • Fixed download lag when downloading series/season images and the overwrite flag was set
  • Fixed issue with images saving as 0 byte files
  • Added ability to select image format (jpg, png, gif, tif, wmf), located in options window
  • Added ability to resize columns in episode list
  • If you alter a series name (for example, "The Office (US)" to "The Office"), your change will be saved for next time
  • You can now flag a file as containing two episodes. Both episodes are restricted to the same season. To see columns for the second episode, click the button at the bottom left hand of the main screen. If there is not a second episode, enter 0 (zero).
  • In conjunction with multiple episodes as indicated above, there is a new format line for files containing two episodes. This format will be entered in the options screen towards the bottom of the form. New format codes have been added that will only apply to double-episode formatting. These codes are listed on the options screen
  • Fixed some User-Interface Glitches
  • Fixed a couple bugs with Series Folder Creation when series name involved symbols invalid in file names
  • Added a browser allowing the user to select the Series Image
  • Added a preview of the Series Image to the main screen -- double-click to view a larger version
  • If no Series Image is selected, the first available image will be used
  • Last Series Image for a particular series is stored as the default for next time
  • Added option to change name of Series/Season image files (in Options Window)
  • You can now hit 'Escape' to stop processing a Series Look-up (if it is still loading a particular item, it will cancel after the current item is fully loaded)
  • Double-click a video to automatically start it in the default video player
    • Also added an option to force user confirmation before opening the video (in Options Window)
  • Added Cache Management
    • Delete the cache for all or a specific series
    • Update the cache for all or a specific series
    • Open directly to the cache folder
  • Refresh the directory listing from the File Menu (this will remove all currently loaded files)
  • Enhanced Rename Options
    • Create Series and Season folders if using the 'move files to an alternate folder' option
    • Download series and season images in conjuction with series/season folders
  • Fixed some spelling errors
  • Added better error handling around some actions
  • View Series List and View Missing Episodes will no longer resize improperly if being dragged while data is being loaded.
  • You can no longer select a series from the series list until the search is complete. This was causing an issue.
  • Fixed a bug that would occur when looking up a series if TheTVDB didn't contain properly formatted data.
  • Internal code and resource clean up.
  • Erasing a file name (making it blank) will automatically uncheck the rename box instead of giving an error.
  • Changing Episode or Season number will set the filename and episode name to blank and require that data be reloaded.
  • Data will now only be loaded for episodes without a filename and whose rename checkboxes are not checked (allowing you to manually change a file name for a file with no data, without losing your changes).
  • Loading Data is now optional. You can manually rename all files if you were so inclined without ever hitting "Load Data" (not reccomended!)
  • Fixed a crash resulting from blank file names
  • Changing the series will erase all data
  • Altering the series name or changing the rename format will no longer overwrite names of files that have no data (file names manually edited)
  • Fixed further issues with the cache, seasons should now only be downloaded once unless TheTVDB.com indicates they are updated.
  • Added the ability to add Genre and Air Date into file names
  • Altered license key manipulation to work properly with pre-Vista computers (if you already have a key, I will be contacting you at your PayPal e-mail address)
  • Stand-Alone program will now ensure .NET Framework 3.5 is installed before executing. Previously, the program would run even if .NET Framework 3.5 wasn't installed and it would behave oddly.
  • Fixed a major error where a particular order of searching and loading data would cause the cache from that point out to not clear properly resulting in all data coming up as an incorrect season. For example, no matter what data was loaded, the data would come up for the last or most current season of a series.
  • The program is now a single instance application.
  • Settings now persist through new versions
  • Picking two or more folders now properly loads the data from each of them. Previously, picking a folder would select it and all of its subfolders. However, if you just picked the subfolders one at a time, only the last one you picked was loading. This would also be true of multiple folders without a common root.
  • Optimized some code to improve performance.
  • You can now drag and drop video files onto the program.
  • You can select multiple episodes at a time and change the series of all of them.
  • Error messages display correctly when entering invalid data (instead of crashing program!)

Future Changes

  • Escape-key cancellation when selecting directories (currently accidently--or purposely--selecting a large directory, such as the root folder will result in extended wait time while parsing files)
  • Updated Help and Tutorial

Download

See changelog above for current version.
You may download TVGuider three different ways:

System Requirements

TVGuider requires the .NET Framework 3.5 (and an Operating System capable of installing it) as well as an internet connection to run. The installers should install the framework for you if you are missing it. Otherwise it is available here. An internet connection is also required.

Trial Use Restrictions

You may use the software indefinitely and free of charge but you will encounter the following restrictions:

  • 15 second loading time wait
  • You can only rename 10 files before having to close the program.

Purchase License

Purchasing a license removes the restrictions listed above. Your name and your e-mail address are required. For your convenience, I will keep this information on file in case you lose your license.

A license only costs $4.99. However, if you are so inclined, you are welcome to pay $9.99 for it! There is no difference except for how generous you are feeling!

Please click the Buy Now button below to pay with PayPal. Once your payment is verified you will receive your license key at the e-mail address you provide.
